Piccolo Mondo – gennaro lauro – 2020

Grâce à l’invitation de l’Associazione Sosta Palmizi, j’ai trouvé ce « piccolo mondo » à moi qui – même si dans un langage différent – est une tentative de continuer à faire vivre l’acte de création ainsi que la mémoire de la matière sur lqauelle j’avais travaillé jusqu’à février 2020: Mondo.
“Mondo” veut dire monde, mais cela signifie aussi marelle – le jeu – et c’est le contraire de immonde.
Cette recherche part de l’observation de ce que j’appellerais la suprématie du résultat.
nos photos, nos cvs, nos profils : instants, points d’arrivée, résultats, desquels nous prétendons qu’ils nous offrent une définition ou une version définitive de nous-mêmes.
Notre obsession pour un accomplissement, notre désir d’être quelque chose pour toujours. Ou d’être des choses tout court.

Puis, il y a le souffle.
Cet acte continu et implacable qui nous accompagne tout au long de nos vies, sans autre but que celui de nous tenir simplement en vie.

‘Mondo’ veut dire cela pour moi.

La résistance d’un enfant qui joue à la marelle dans une cour.
La pureté jamais définitive qui ressort de l’acte incessant de sculpter soi-même.
La “totalité des faits, non des choses”.

Thanks to the invitation of Associazione Sosta Palmizi, I found this “piccolo mondo” which – although in a different language – is an attempt to keep alive the act of creation as well as the memory of what I had been working on until February 2020: “Mondo”.
“Mondo” means world.
But it means also ‘hopscotch’ – the game – and it is the opposite of immondo, ‘unclean’.
This research starts from the observation of what I would define the supremacy of result.
Our pictures, our cvs, our social profiles: instants, images, endpoints that we claim to be a definition or a definitive version of ourselves.
Our mania for an accomplishment. Our desire to be something forever. Or to be some ‘thing’ tout court.

Then, there is breath.
This relentless, continuous action that accompanies us along our whole life, with no other goal than the simple, bare fact of keeping us alive.

‘Mondo’ means this to me.
* The resistance of a child playing hopscotch in the courtyard.
* The never-definitive pureness that comes out from the continuous act of sculpting. * The ‘totality of facts, not of things”.
